Joe Exotic isn’t the only one who thinks Carole Baskin “whacked” husband Don Lewis. Variety reports that last night, Lewis’ family aired a scathing commercial during Baskin’s debut performance on Dancing with the Stars. As revealed in the Carole Baskin commercial, which aired throughout Florida, the family is offering a $100,000 reward for any information about Lewis’ 1997 disappearance or Baskin’s alleged involvement in his death.
Carole Baskin’s Dancing with the Stars performance clearly played to her Tiger King fame — she danced the Paso to “Eye of the Tiger” — but during a commercial break, Lewis’ family cast doubt on her viral stardom. In a commercial titled “Don Lewis Family Response to Carole Baskin’s Appearance on Dancing With the Stars” that aired in Tampa, Jacksonville, and other TV markets, Lewis’ daughters, former assistant, and family attorney remind viewers that Lewis’ sudden disappearance has still not been solved.
“Don Lewis mysteriously disappeared in 1997. His family deserves answers. They deserve justice,” says John M. Phillips, the family attorney. “Do you know who did this, or if Carole Baskin was involved?”
Lewis’ family has set up a tip line, as well as a $100,000 reward for information about the incident. “We need to know what happened to our father,” explains Donna, Lewis’ eldest daughter.
Baskin’s relationship with Lewis was featured prominently in Tiger King, Netflix’s viral docuseries about the feud between zoo owner Joe Exotic and Baskin, owner of the Big Cat Rescue. Several people interviewed in Tiger King, particularly Exotic, have alleged that Baskin killed Lewis and fed his body to her tigers, a claim she has repeatedly denied. Local authorities featured in the docuseries have also theorized that Lewis died while traveling to Costa Rica, where he wanted to establish a new animal sanctuary, or successfully made it there and disappeared from public life.
Clearly, Lewis’ family isn’t happy that Baskin is involved in DWTS, but it’s likely she won’t remain on the show for long. After a moderately disastrous Paso Doble, Baskin and partner Pasha Pashkov were awarded an 11/30, the lowest score of the night.
Will Baskin and Pashkov survive, or will their DWTS journey end after just one week? Tune in next Tuesday, September 22 (not Monday!) at 8/7c on ABC to find out.
